The Mission of the Foundation
“International Support Fund for the Children
Suffering From Leukemia” is a charity organization to support
children suffering from leukemia living in Georgia. The Foundation
was established on May 14, 1999 in compliance with the Civil Code of
Georgia. Founding members of the Fund are the people who have
experienced all the difficulties and pains that this disease entails
and have felt an enormous spiritual relief that sympathies and
comfort of people around them can bring.
The purpose of the Fund is to:
- Provide material, moral and spiritual support to the children
suffering from leukemia and to their parents;
- Support the families of the children suffering from leukemia
and promote their social security;
- Develop and improve the conditions in hospitals to make the
children’s stay enjoyable there;
- Promote the further development of charity activities to help
the children suffering from leukemia.
The Program is devised to create such conditions for the
children in hospital that would provide their mental and spiritual
development. The implementation of this program will greatly help
the children to overcome the difficulties connected to the treatment
and at the same time will make their involvement in active life
easier after leaving the hospital.

Accomplishments
Throughout
the period of its existence the Fund has installed the hot water
tank, washing machine and electric stoves in Onco-hematological
center, the only Center in Georgia (functioning in Tbilisi on the
basis of the Children’s Central Hospital). The Fund set the
children’s playing room and furnished it with tables, chairs, a sofa
and a piano. The walls of the playing room have been decorated with
fairy tales and cartoon characters to create warm and homelike
atmosphere.
The fund introduced the art therapy course for which reason four
teachers have been invited to teach
the children various crafts. The children are given painting,
modelling, sewing, knitting and music lessons twice a week. These
activities help them overcome the consequences of a long and serious
treatment.
The members of the Fund often visit the Centre and bring the
children presents and sweets. They celebrate Christmas, Easter and
other significant holidays together.
The fund often invites the Puppet and Muppet theatres, actors,
musicians, arranges exhibitions of children’s paintings.

Future Plans
The Foundation intends to:
- Provide a full scale elementary school curriculum for the
children who are temporarily detached from the learning process
due to being in hospital that requires the employment of at least
4 additional teachers.
- Publish calendars and booklets decorated with children’s own
paintings.
- Build a special house in a countryside, nearby Tbilisi, where
the children will be able to stay after their treatment for the
period of rehabilitation.
